“Made in the U.S.A.” is a phrase that invokes pride in the hearts of many American citizens. The manufacturing industry is the foundational cornerstone of the U.S. economy and is responsible for the standard of living that many Americans enjoy. In Iowa, thousands of people work in the manufacturing industry. However, those who work in manufacturing often face a myriad of hazards as they perform their day-to-day duties.
In another state, an employee was
injured in a workplace accident that prompted an investigation by the Occupational Health and Safety Administration. Apparently, the worker got caught in a machine after only being on the job for six weeks. According to reports, the employee was operating a winding machine when his finger became caught in a rotating spindle. Reportedly, his entire body became trapped and was pulled around the spindle in the machine.
Reports said the worker was severely injured and required surgery. After investigating the incident, OSHA reportedly cited the business for eight willful violations and six serious violations, as well as one repeat violation. Investigations revealed that the company exposed employees to machine hazards, failed to provide personal protective equipment and failed to adequately train their workers. The company faces over $1 million in total fines.
Corporations and businesses throughout the country are required to protect their employees. When an employee is injured on the job, workers’ compensation benefits can provide financial support during the recovery. Those in Iowa who have questions or need help applying for workers’ compensation benefits could get much-needed assistance by speaking with an experienced and knowledgeable attorney.
